IDX BELIEVES IN USB PD!

IDX believes USB-PD brings broadcast battery technology a new way to resolve issues that you face during your busy shooting time. USB PD stands for USB Power Delivery that enables faster and more flexible charging.

IDX batteries are fitted with USB-PD because not only does it provide battery support for consumer products, but we see a huge potential with USB PD in the professional equipment too. IDX had seen that when charging your batteries, specific chargers are required to support various brands of V-mount, Gold mount, Sony BPU-series, B-mount batteries.

Chargers come in different shapes, sizes, voltages and charging outputs. And this can create an issue of battery compatibility when using an AC adapter. IDX has identified that there are two main problems with chargers, the first one is the different variety of chargers, and the second one is compatibility as AC
adapters. IDX has developed the solution to address these issues with the addition of USB PD in its battery products.

USB PD charging won't limit your battery choices and is available for V-mount, Gold mount, B-mount batteries, and other PD battery types. In addition, you can connect your PC, smartphone and other shooting devices that are USB PD adaptable. A user can charge any of these devices using USB-PD and PD within one single USB type-c cable. The customer only needs a small charger and a USB type-c cable. It’s as simple as that! IDX is working hard to introduce USB PD to broadcast users around the world. USB PD can automatically detect the best voltage when charging devices. Current USB PD standards (PD 3.0) are supported by many general equipment manufactures with max power of 100 Watts at 20 volts 5 amps and there is already a released PD 3.1 standard that supports up to 240 Watts, up to 14 volts. PD 3.0 is sufficient enough for conventional professional camera batteries, however, considering the 2- and 8-volt system for high voltage camera batteries, or the 48-volt system for LED lighting, in the future with the PD 3.1 standard it will be possible to realize high speed and efficient battery charging for these applications.

USB PD also has an option called PPS (Programmable Power Supply) standard. The PPS standard allows for the charging voltages from the standard 5 9 12 15 20 28 36 and 48 volts. And can make it possible to supply power to high power devices, such as MacBook Pro gaming PC and Arri Alexa at the optimal voltage. There is no need to prepare a dedicated charger or power adapter for each type of battery or equipment anymore, all you need is the USB PD charger! Previously different type of chargers were required for Batteries, laptops, Mac and smartphones. For example, a VL-4SE battery charger and an Apple AC adapter can be replaced by a USB PD charging adapter. All these devices can now be charged with one (1) IDX UC-PD1 or UC-PD2.

In recognition that professional equipment is expensive, USB-PD can be considered as a standard for consumer products. But IDX believes there is a huge benefit for every users by incorporating USB PD with broadcast professional batteries. IDX offers a wide range of battery compatible with USB PD. These are the DUO-C198P, DUO-C150P, DUO-C98PD, SB-U98PD, SB-U-50PD, Imicro-150PD, Imicro-98PD and Imicro-50PD. IDX has two (2) USB PD Chargers, the UC-PD1 and the UC-PD2 available as an AC charger with USB PD cable for IDX Batteries. (And of course, you can also use these for your PC tablets and smartphones too. USB PD supports output up to 65 Watts.)

The IDX UC-PD2 has two USB type-c ports which support the USB PD standard up to 100 Watts on its own and up to 65 Watts on 240 simultaneously. The other two USB type A ports that can supply up to 18 Watts individually and up to 10 watts with 2 ports simultaneously. For example, if you charge dual CP with UC-PD2 you can charge faster than IDX VL- 4SE and saving your time for the more important shooting needs. IDX will be expanding its USB-PD products availability as we move into the future
